Pleasure: Life Goal, Painkiller, or Growth Killer?

Is your life directed toward consumption and material senses fulfillment?

Is your life a waiting room between temporary pleasure and temporary pleasure?

Is your life's call based on fulfilling your material needs?

In this article I hope to give you a new light on temporary pleasures, and help you through your own reflection, to improve your daily life.

Some painful events that we may use as reason to direct our lives toward consumption, and leisure lifestyle, could be:

  • Escape from the current situation you may have.

  • Escape from long-lasting painful situations.

  • Cope with past traumas.

  • Cope with dark energy you may have within yourself.

  • Cope with frustration and failure.

  • Cope with depression.

  • Cope with anxiety.

  • Fear of future.

  • Fear of change.

To help you endure the previous issues, the elements of the next list are available in the "temporary pleasures toolkit”:

  • From online shopping, to ordering fast food often.

  • From oversleeping, to neglecting your duties.

  • From relaxing your duties, to rejecting any responsibility.

  • From overeating, to becoming overweight.

  • From getting drunk, to establishing a weekly hangover by default.

  • From taking drugs, to getting addicted.

  • From one vice, to the next.

  • From one bad habit, to another.

As a result of the previous bad habits or painkillers, you may end up with:

  • Looking forward to escape your next responsibility.

  • Looking forward to the next "temporary pleasure shot”.

  • Lack of physical endurance and strength.

  • Insomnia.

  • Sleep disorder.

  • Obesity.

  • Heart attack.

  • Alcoholism.

  • Drug addiction.

  • Anxiety.

  • Depression.

As you can see, the resulting “cocktail” of bad habits abuse doesn´t look very attractive at all.

Are all your efforts, talents, and potential, invested only to fulfill your senses?

Is focusing on consumption and leisure the main reason why humans were created in the first place?

Was humankind with all its might, talents, and potential, created to pursue temporary pleasures as our core mission in life?

On the painful side, I understand that temporary pleasures can be the only way we have to endure painful situations and help us keep going.

Still, in the long term, do you think temporary pleasures will truly solve your problems from the internal and bring you peace of mind?

Will bad habits really generate inner peace from within?

Or will you just remain in escape mode with bad habits while you deteriorate physically and mentally?

Is the temporary high that you feel after consumption, much greater and long-lasting than the inner peace you could generate with more productive activities?

If you are open to test different things, you can try to exchange some consumption habits with more productive ones.

With time and practice, you will see how the inner fire generated by those creative activities will pump you up, and improve the quality of your daily life.
